πŸ“±Tether

Use-Cases (Why would anybody want to do this?)

  • Remote WLAN Pi access, without touching the customer network

  • During network commissioning a tethered WLAN Pi can give network equipment an internet connection (Easy Cellular data to Ethernet converter)

  • You could use the WLAN Pi as a hotspot, but your mobile device can probably already do this! (switching into Hotspot mode would be the easy fast way to achieve this)

Smartphone Users (with a cable)

  1. USB tether your WLAN Pi to your Phone For this you need to use a WLAN Pi host port - USB-C (side) - USB-A (top) <- This port may be more reliable due to power draw

  2. Plug it in

  3. Unlock the iPhone

  4. Wait a moment

  5. Tap 'Trust this device' >Screen shot<

  6. Assuming your cellular plan allows tethering and you have data available your WLAN Pi should now have internet connectivity

  7. Check this by navigating to Utils > Reachablility Double check that you do not have an ethernet connection to the internet

  8. Check out Utils > USB Devices

Tailscale Lab

  1. Tether your WLAN Pi to your phone

  2. Keep your laptop on the hotel WiFi

  3. Reference the remote access lab Can you still successfully ping from WLAN Pi to your laptop?
