Holding the Go

Holding your Phone and WLAN Pi Go

Many applications will not be that sensitive to actual received signal strength. However, if you think you might want to look at the weakest signals possible, then holding your Go to avoid your hand obscuring the antennas might be useful.

  • If you are capturing some packets and near the target device, it is unlikely to matter

  • If you are scanning to see how many on-channel APs, you can hear for co-channel interference then it's best not to obscure the antennas

  • If you are doing a repeat measurement such as a wall attenuation measurement, you should hold the Go exactly the same way each time.

This is a good way to position your fingers when holding your Go.

The impact of your hands on the antenna can be as much as 10 dB. Later in the labs, we will explore the best way to hold your Go when attached to your personal phone.
